Meghan Markle had an awkward moment while attending Christmas dinner with the Royal Family a few years ago.

Amid reports that the Duchess of Sussex and her husband Prince Harry wouldn't turn down an invitation to spend the festive period at Sandringham this year, the former Suits star's awkward Christmas blunder from 2017 has been unearthed.

The 42-year-old mother-of-two previously revealed how she felt embarrassed after being unintentionally ignored by a senior Royal while sitting down for Christmas dinner with the British Monarchy. Attending Sandringham for Christmas festivities in 2017, which wasn't the norm considering she wasn't yet married into the Royal Family, Meghan sat down and enjoyed Christmas dinner with her future in-laws.

Recalling her first Christmas at Sandringham in the Harry & Meghan Netflix docuseries, Meghan candidly shared how she suffered an awkward moment while dining with the Royals. Touching on how she sat beside Prince Philip, Meghan was keen to impress him and everyone else there.

Sitting next to Prince Harry's grandfather Prince Philip, who sadly died in 2021, Meghan was happy to chat away to the Queen's husband. But unbeknownst to Meghan, she had been wittering away in his "bad ear", with the Duke of Edinburgh having not heard a thing.

Recalling the moment in the Netflix docuseries, Meghan said: "At dinner, I was sat next to H’s grandfather and I just thought it was so wonderful ... We chatted and it was so great and I talked about this and talked about this. [Harry] was like, ‘You had [his] bad ear. He couldn’t hear anything you were saying.'"

This comes as reports swirl that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are keen to build bridges with King Charles III and the British Royal Family following stepping down as working Royals in 2020 amid their family feud. This month it has even been claimed that the Sussexes would be happy to accept an invitation to Sandringham this Christmas.

An insider recently told The Times: "I can’t imagine the Sussexes would decline an invitation to spend time with His Majesty. As of yet, there have not been any invitations for the holidays."

But despite the above reports, Royal biographer Emily Andrews recently said that the Sussexes "are not returning to the UK during the festive season".

"Sadly, reconciliation is not an option for the Windsors and Harry any time soon. The painful rift between the two brothers has hardened - the betrayal still fresher than ever, too much for even Christmas to heal," Emily revealed to Woman Magazine.
