Despite being dubbed the 'Fab Four', the Prince and Princess of Wales never hit it off with Meghan Markle.

There had been high hopes that along with Prince Harry, they would all be the face of the modern monarchy as well as firm friends. But the two couples' seemingly vastly different personalities and approaches to life meant there were tensions between them. In his memoir Spare, Harry recounts several times that his wife seemed at loggerheads with his sister-in-law Kate in the early days of their romance. He says the two women had a row over bridesmaid dresses in the lead-up to his wedding that left Meghan in tears and that Kate "grimaced" when the duchess borrowed her lipgloss.

But it seems the two women along with their husbands decided to have a clear-the-air chat, shortly after the Sussexes' honeymoon in 2018, although it was so tense, Kate's fingers went white. Harry recounted the moment in his memoir after he and Meghan were invited over for tea.

He recalls how both couples aired their grievances including Kate, who asked for an apology from Meghan as she gripped a leather sofa so tightly her "fingers were white". According to Spare, Kate wanted Meghan to say sorry for making a remark about her hormones and having "baby brain" while she was pregnant.

The book then recounts how Meghan apologised and explained that is how she speaks to her friends. But the encounter took a turn when Harry claims William "pointed a finger at Meg", then allegedly blasted: "Well, it's rude, Meghan. These things are not done here." To which Meghan responded: "If you don't mind, keep your finger out of my face."

However, both sides apologised to each other and hugged before ending the meeting - although it may have been a sign of things to come. William and Harry have been at odds for several years now but the divide has widened following the death of the late Queen after the accusations Harry publicly levelled at his brother in double tell-alls: his memoir, Spare, and his Netflix documentary.

Reports have now suggested the Sussexes would be keen to accept an invitation to spend Christmas with the rest of the Royal Family at Sandringham this year. It comes as relations have seemingly begun to thaw between the Duke of Sussex and King Charles after they shared a 'warm' phone call last week.

But it seems royal insiders have poured cold water on the Sussexes and their children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet visiting for the festive period, saying it is likely they wouldn't be welcomed back into the royal fold. And according to royal expert and former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond, this would please William.

She told the Sun: "Little Archie and Lilibet should be running around with their many cousins, pulling crackers, opening presents and understanding their place in the family, connecting with their relatives even though their lives are thousands of miles away. But that’s not going to happen.

"I don't think William will be shedding a tear over this. Deep down, I’m sure he still loves Harry, but I don’t think he can see a way out of the rift that has opened between them. I think William has closed his mind to the prospect of reconciliation with Harry, and I can’t see a time when Meghan would be welcomed back into the bosom of the family - or a time when she would ever want to be welcomed back. I doubt that William thinks about them for more than a fleeting moment - and then he probably tries to blank out those thoughts."
