Man Utd's thoughts on Ten Hag's controversial approach after Sancho banished

Members of Erik ten Hag's coaching staff are reportedly of the opinion that the Manchester United manager should tone down his hardline approach.

After enjoying a fine maiden campaign at the helm, the Dutchman has found himself under pressure in recent weeks after overseeing the club's worst start to a season in the Premier League era. Concerns over poor results have been further punctuated by personnel issues following fallouts with both Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho.

Ten Hag has adopted a stern, no-nonsense approach after inheriting a squad devoid of discipline. However, it now seems as though some of those within Ten Hag's inner circle believe he should change tact.

According to a new report from The Mail, members of Ten Hag's coaching staff have 'privately questioned' his methods after seeing his relationship with Varane deteriorate in recent weeks.

It's claimed the World Cup winner was furious that the likes of Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof have been selected ahead of him and that he had a 'frank exchange' with Ten Hag as a result. The defender could now be sold in January.

The report goes on to outline that those members of Ten Hag's coaching staff feel that adopting a softer approach would be beneficial given the current divide within the squad, with some favouring Ten Hag's approach and others not.

Ten Hag's ongoing feud with Sancho is another matter which has divided opinions at the club's Carrington training base, with some believing the former Borussia Dortmund star has been harshly treated by his manager.

Sancho landed himself in hot water after taking to social media to dispute claims made by Ten Hag, who had attributed poor training performances as the reason behind the winger's absence from the matchday squad against Arsenal at the start of September.

Sancho's public retort - and his refusal to apologise in private - led to Ten Hag taking the decision to banish the £73million forward from all first-team facilities at the club. He has not been considered for selection since the row.

While it remains to be seen if Varane will be given the green light to leave the club in January, it seems likely that Manchester United would welcome proposals for Sancho, although he is unlikely to entertain any interest from Saudi Arabia.
