Shane MacGowan’s sister is "ecstatic" her Pogues singer brother has been released from hospital following a long stay, just in time for Christmas and his birthday.
Siobhan MacGowan, an author who has also worked in journalism and the music business, told the Irish Mirror that the family have not planned for anything big and that just "having him home is enough".
On Wednesday night, Shane’s wife Victoria Mary Clarke announced that the Fairytale of New York singer was discharged from St. Vincent’s Hospital in Dublin following a five-month stay battling a serious blood infection.
During his time in intensive care, Victoria has been keeping fans updated on her 65-year-old husband’s well-being, with a spate of pals coming to visit him throughout his stay, including bandmates Spider Stacy and Terry Woods, Daniel O’Donnell, Primal Scream frontman Bobby Gillespie, Imelda May, Clannad’s Moya Brennan and Nenagh singer Tom Creagh.

"We're not going to make any big plans, just having him home is enough. We just see each other, that's all that matters to us now. Just to be with him. Dad is 94, so hopefully, we'll be able to get him up to see Shane as well.
"Just to get together that’s all we want. We don’t want anything big or anything else - just to be with him."

"Whenever anybody is seriously ill, you are always fearful when you love them. It was difficult, but Shane made an amazing recovery. He is very strong and resilient, he’s got a great constitution and great willpower."
