Christmas looks tense on Emmerdale this year - as Marlon struggles and Chloe's dad arrives with disastrous consequences for Mack.
It's been a tough year for the residents of the Yorkshire village, but it looks like things will get even worse as 2023 comes to close, with the show's producer Laura Shaw revealing what we can expect from a festive visit to the Dales this year.
There's trouble for Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) when Chloe Harris' (Jessie Elland) dad arrives and is adamant to help his daughter in the only way he knows how, whilst Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock) struggles with a new arrival.
Here's what's happening in the Dales this Christmas - ahead of a bumper 2024 for the ITV soap, which includes tragedy, a big return and a new arrival in the form of Caleb's wife and Nicky's mum, but what's she been hiding?
Chloe's dad arrives - but what trouble will this cause for Mack? (ITV)Speaking to us, Laura revealed: "We've got a slightly edgier Christmas this year! The Charity, Mackenzie, Chloe love triangle has been bubbling away for 18 months or so now. We'll see at Christmas that reach a bit more of a crescendo where Mackenzie pushes Chloe to her absolute limits. And what we'll see is her reach out to her father for help.
EastEnders' Jake Wood's snap of son has fans pointing out the pair's likeness
"Chloe's dad is not someone to be messed about with quite a dark character… When she reaches out to him, what we will see is him helping Chloe in his own unique way. Is Mackenzie gonna be able to talk his way out of this one? I'm not sure. We'll have to wait and see, but I think it's pretty sure to say that the repercussions of that are gonna be long lasting into the new year and beyond."
Marlon struggles this Christmas (ITV)Things don't go too well for Rhona, Marlon and their family this Christmas when the fall out from the death of Gus' wife Lucy and the arrival of baby Ivy causes trouble for the established couple.
"We’ve seen Rhona having a really tricky time recently. Obviously we’ve just seen on screen that Lucy sadly died just after the birth of baby Ivy. And what we'll see going forward is just Gus starting to struggle a little bit with his grief and with being a single parent to little Ivy. And that’s going to have a huge impact on Rhona and Marlon's Christmas," Laura revealed, "How is Marlon going to cope if Rhona wants to reach out and help Baby Ivy, will Gus let Rhona help? And what are the repercussions going to be on Leo and April?
Tracy and Caleb's affair risks being exposed this Christmas (ITV)We've all had them - awkward Christmas dinners - and it looks like the Dingles will be no exception this year.
"Tracy and Caleb have started their dangerous affair - and we'll see a bit more of that in the run up to Christmas. And then what we'll see is the most awkward Christmas dinner ever when those that are all sat around the table at the Dingles together. Somebody on Christmas Day is going to find out their dark secret and threaten to blow that," Laura teased.
What trouble will this bring Caleb and Tracy - and will it have wider effects on the rest of the village?
Torvill and Dean with some of the stars of EmmerdaleITV legends Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean will be drafted in for a very special Christmas proposal this year. Whilst we haven't had it confirmed who will get engaged, we know Belle and Tom are getting married on Valentine's Day next year.
Emmerdale Producer, Laura Shaw, revealed: "We are delighted to welcome Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean as our very special guests to Emmerdale. Torvill and Dean certainly promise to bring the Christmas magic sparkle to the show."
The pair will appear on the show this Christmas ahead of the new series of Dancing On Ice, which kicks off in January.
