Fortnite split-screen is finally available in-game again

Fortnite's split-screen features and the ability to ready up without going back to the lobby have returned to the game after being removed alongside downtime earlier this week.

While Fortnite OG 's whole gimmick has been about bringing things back to the game – with Fortnite Chapter 1 Season 9 and Season X coming to the game later today – the latest update earlier this week ended up removing some things.

When Epic Games confirmed that Fortnite OG was back online after the Fortnite v27.10 downtime had ended, it also posted a tweet saying that it had to remove some functionality due to issues. The tweet said "Please note: We've temporarily disabled Split Screen functionality and the 'Ready Up' and 'Keep Playing Together' buttons due to an issue. We're investigating a fix for this now and will provide an update when these features have been re-enabled."

Thankfully, it didn't take long for Epic Games as both of these features are now back in the game, with the company confirming the return on the @FortniteStatus Twitter account

Split decision

For those unaware on how to play Fortnite in split-screen, Epic Games has posted a guide on the Fortnite website. However, the split-screen mode only works on PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and is unavailable on PC, Nintendo Switch, and mobile. The instructions are as follows:

• Start Fortnite and go to the Main Menu .
• Make sure that both controllers are connected to the console and turned on.
• Once both controllers are connected, the first player needs to invite the second player to select their account.
• Once signed into their account, the second player will appear in the lobby and split-screen mode will automatically turn on when you start a game.

If split-screen isn't working for you Epic Games has noted that the mode will only work if you have a stable connection. However, split-screen is unavailable in Creative and Limited Time Modes, Save the World, Ranked Mode, or Solos (which should be obvious for that last one).

Epic Games didn't confirm what the issue was with split-screen and the ready up options, and why they disappeared following the downtime, but hopefully this isn't a reoccurring issue going forward.
