Eyewitness Austin Selkin came to the area after spotting smoke. He told Fox 4: "It was just flames everywhere, it was really bad. Another person who saw the incident, Shawn Anderson, also saw the plane before it crashed and said was moving unusually. He said: “The plane made a turn like he was going up but didn’t look right." After he looked back he he saw a cloud of black smoke after the plane had crashed.

Plano Fire-Rescue was unaware of the plane's flight path. Daly added: "We do not know where the aircraft was destined, whether they were going to this landing strip that is really close or Addison. We don't really have that information right now."
