Mum left in tears by B&M manager's act of kindness to young daughter
A mum told how she left in tears by a B&M manager's kindness for going around the shop with her daughter to buy a birthday present.
Fiona Rush's daughter Trinity wanted to buy her a birthday present and she took her shopping but at a till, at the store in Belfast, she didn't have enough money. And a kind-hearted shop manager took her by the hand and showed her items she could afford.
"My birthday was coming up and my child was asking me what I would like for my birthday. She is only five-years-old and I told her that all I needed was a big hug. She got a few pounds from trick or treating and had been saving up her coins in her wee handbag and asked if I could take her to the shops," she said.
"I asked her what we needed and she said that she just wanted to get something. She was being a bit suspicious but I kind of gauged what she wanted to do and I decided to indulge her because it was such a beautiful thing. I brought her to Home Bargains at the Kennedy Centre because I thought that it would be somewhere that she could get something which was a few pounds.
"She asked if she could run on ahead and look at the toys. I said yes but kept an eye on her from afar and she was just popping things into a wee shopping bag so I couldn't see what she had. She went to the till and the lady winked at me and said that the receipt was in the bag."
Complaints to UK energy watchdog hits record levels
When Fiona and Trinity returned to their car, her daughter got really upset in the car because she didn't have enough money to buy what she wanted, reported BelfastLive. "My heart broke so I pulled into B&M at Westwood and off she went. I gave her £5 and when I seen her at the till, the manager was there and there was a new member of staff on the till who had to call the manager to cancel the sale and it was causing a big queue," Fiona continued.
"I felt really judged and sorry and was trying to find out how much more she needed to get the queue down. By this stage, the manager had opened up another till and was taking card only. Trinity then said that she wished she had a card so she would have enough money to buy me a present for my birthday.
"Everyone laughed because it was quite funny and the manager asked when my birthday was. I explained that it was the next day and she asked if it was ok for her to take Trinity around the shop with her." Fiona agreed and the manager took Trinity by the hand to find a birthday present for her mum which she could afford.
"The child came skipping back, holding the manager's hand proud as punch with her shopping. I broke into tears and thanked the manager who said that Trinity was adorable and that her child was the same age," said Fiona.
"I felt that I wanted to thank her for that because staff like that are very special and it is a nice reminder to keep our local stores open because you can't get service like that online. I am a lone parent and in other situations the father or grandparents would go and buy a present on behalf of the child, but we don't have that. For someone in the shop to be able to help the child do that, count out her coins for her and put her change back in her bag, you just aren't going to get that online."
