A couple were reduced to tears after they received a "thoughtful" gesture from their neighbours - after it became clear they could hear their baby crying.

As neighbourly spats are inevitable, and usually it's a letter complaining, this time it was the complete opposite for this new mum as she shared the kind gesture online.

There's no denying having a newborn baby comes with its fair share of challenges - and it can also be a worry when out and about with a crying baby, but this couple couldn't believe their neighbour's kindness when trying to ease the newborn stages.

The new mum found the package, with a letter attached that read: "Hey, we are your neighbours from behind you to the left. We have heard your little bub crying a few times and thought we would drop off some nappies and wipes, as we know how tough the early days are! We hope this brightens your day xoxo."

The neighbour had also left a pile of baby products by the front door, and the Aussie mum shared it online as she wrote: "Our neighbours left this note at our front door along with some nappies and wipes. Thank you for your kindness and being patient with the noise of a crying newborn!"

"We were worried about keeping the neighbours awake but it's warming to know that some people understand the nighttime struggle. A lot of parents have it harder than we do so we are grateful for the kind gesture and plan to pay it forward," the mum told the Daily Mail, as she shared that her baby is "restless at night" and often won't settle until around 10pm.

People were quick to praise the kindness of the neighbour on the mum's Facebook post, as one person wrote: "More people should be neighbours like this," and another commented: "Gifts and understanding, what more can you ask for?" With a third who added: "What wonderful neighbours to have. That brought tears to my eyes."
