Prince Harry "will avoid watching The Crown" as the new series depicts the months leading up to his mother's death, according to an expert.

Diana and her boyfriend Dodi Fayed died in a car crash in Paris in August 1997 while their driver, Henri Paul was fleeing the paparazzi. Henri also died in the crash. The sixth and final series of The Crown will show the run-up to the tragic deaths, although the crash itself will not be portrayed on screen.

Harry was just 12 years old when his mother died and went through a lot of pain in the aftermath of the fatal accident. PR expert Mayah Riaz believes the show will be too upsetting for the Duke of Sussex to watch.

Speaking exclusive to The Mirror, she said: "I don't think Harry will watch the new series. The reason he won't watch it is because it is not a reflection of what he went through. He has spoken about how upsetting that period was for him."

Mayah said it would be upsetting for Harry to see his mother's death recreated for entertainment purposes. "Seeing someone else’s depiction of it will be upsetting as he may feel it did not need to be recreated for entertainment. For that reason he will avoid watching it," she told us.

In the new series of The Crown, Elizabeth Debicki and Khalid Abdalla are seen depicting Diana's blossoming romance with Dodi. In one scene, Diana can be seen on a private yacht as she spends time with Dodi. The couple also look tense as they sit in the back of a car.

Prince Harry has been very open about the impact of his mother's death and admitted he was in a state of disbelief when he was told she had died.

Writing in his debut memoir Spare, Harry said he convinced himself that Diana had faked her death and was instead in hiding. He said he justified this theory by thinking: "She's been very unhappy, she's been harassed, lied to, and lied about her. So she's faked this accident as a move to make them get away from her."

Harry went on to say that he believed Diana was renting an apartment in Paris, or had secretly bought a cabin in the Swiss Alps. The Duke of Sussex said this helped him to feel "much better" about her traumatic death.

He admitted that he always believed she would come back. In Spare, Harry said: "This is her way of fighting. She will come back. Sure. In two weeks it's my birthday."
