Harry and Meghan aren't big fans of intrusion into their lives, but happily watch The Crown

Prince Harry has had many programmes made about his life over the years, but none have been as successful as the hugely popular Netflix series The Crown.

It first debuted back in 2016, and began with the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, played by Claire Foy. The subsequent seasons focused on each decade of the late queen’s time on the throne, with Olivia Colman playing the monarch in series three and four, while Imelda Staunton has the honour of portraying the queen in the final two seasons.

The Duke of Sussex features heavily in the final instalments of The Crown - set to be released on 16 November and 16 December - as the show focuses on the breakdown of Diana and Charles’ marriage, as well as the late Princess of Wales’ romance with Dodi Al-Fayed, and her tragic death in 1997.

Harry has been quizzed for years over the show, and earlier this year, he admitted he had watch The Crown, and admitted it was based partially on truth. “Yes, I have actually watched The Crown, the older stuff and the more recent stuff,” he said during an interview on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.

He was then asked if he did any “fact-checking” while watching the Emmy-winning show, to which he replied: “Yes, I do, actually. Which, by the way, is another reason why it’s so important that history has it right.”

In an another interview in 2021, Harry told James Corden he was happy watching The Crown because it was fictional, and “didn’t pretend to be news”. He added: “It gives you a rough idea about what…the pressures of putting duty and service above family and everything else - what can come from that.”

Harry continued: “I’m way more comfortable with The Crown than I am seeing the stories written about my family, my wife, or myself. That is obviously fiction - take it how you will - but this is being reported on as fact because it’s supposedly news. I have a real issue with that.”

He was also quizzed by Dax Shepard on his Armchair Expert podcast in 2021, and candidly revealed he was told by his family that having his life written about in public was something he needed to deal with. "I don't think you ever get used to it but it is part of that life where you kind of have to - at least or certainly I was told this for many years - it's just the way that it is you have to accept that they are going to write xyz about you,” he said.

Season six of The Crown will debut on 16 November and 14 December on Netflix
