A McDonald's worker has hit out at customers who use the 'salt trick' to get fresh fries. With everyone feeling the squeeze due to the cost of living crisis, it's no surprise we all want the best value for our hard-earned cash.

Over time, fast-food insiders have often shared secrets and tips on how customers can get more bang for their buck. But one McDonald's employee has called out those who try to cheat their way to fresh fries using a popular hack. TikTok user Grace expressed her annoyance with customers who order salt-free chips just to get a new batch.

In her video, viewed more than 81,000 times, she says: "If you go to McDonald's and ask for no salt on your fries just to get them fresh, and then ask for a handful of salt packets, you are the worst kind of customer. Just ask us to make them fresh."

Her video sparked a debate in the comments section, with some viewers saying they ask for no salt because it's better for their health. However, others admitted they do it to ensure their chips are freshly made.

One person cheekily commented: "I will neither confirm nor deny that I do this. And another viewer added: " Another viewer chimed in, saying: "I always ask for no salt because I don't want the salt. Y'all put way too much salt on them."

Grace isn't the only McDonald's employee to warn customers about using the "no-salt" trick to get fresh chips. Ex-McDonald's corporate chef Mike Haracz has also weighed in on the chip freshness debate. He suggests simply telling the staff that you're happy to wait for the freshest chips possible.

Mike recently spilled the beans on how customers can whip up their own version of the fast food giant's delicious hot mustard sauce, and it only requires two ingredients. On his TikTok account, Mike shared with fans: "Do you want to buy McDonalds hot mustard from the store? I'm a former McDonald's corporate chef and I have an option for you."

"Unfortunately, you're going to have to buy two things, but if you do not want to make the closer dupe that the Mustard Queen has, go check out her page, it's very close I've tried it, I've made it and that is almost identical to the McDonald's hot mustard, and unlike the Big Mac video I did where you can just buy the one you have to buy these two things."

"For reference, the McDonald's hot mustard is a mayo-based sauce, the ingredients statement has egg yolk and oil, and all the things that go into making mayonnaise, but you need to buy Heinz MayoMust, which is a newer item, but it's just mayonnaise and mustard basically combined together, and then you need to buy Tabasco sauce, and you need to give your little mayo mustard a couple shots of Tabasco sauce and you have a very very close hot mustard dupe."
