Emmerdale fans were left speechless tonight as Dawn Taylor debuted a very different look.

Dawn - played by Olivia Bromley - is currently expecting a baby, her first with husband Billy Fletcher and her nearest and dearest gathered today to celebrate the impending arrival of her baby.

However, fans of the ITV soap were left distracted when they noticed her hair was completely different and took to social media to comment on her new look, as she was fussed over by her family and friends.

Dawn looked very different today

One viewer wrote: "I like Dawn's hair short #Emmerdale," whilst a second added: "Love Dawn's hair like that #Emmerdale." A third fan shared on social media: "Dawn looks so different with her hair down! #emmerdale."

Earlier this year, Olivia teased more about the pregnancy storyline, revealing that villainous Alex could make a huge return to the village in a shocking set of scenes, just as Dawn and Billy seem content with their upcoming arrival.

Speaking to The Mirror and other press, and asked if villain Alex might make his return one day, Olivia said: "I think that he's just a presence in our lives. Like Jay says we can't get rid of him entirely because of the kids but at the moment. We think he's out of the picture and we've got a little bit of relief because he left the village under very scared circumstances. So we were pretty positive he's not around at the moment. But yeah, he could crop up at any time so it's a bit of a threat."

Jay - who plays Billy - says there's always "potential" for Alex to return and cause some damage. He added: "I personally think that it's always going to be in the back of everyone's minds, and it's one of them things that we are kind of tethered together. Just with the fact that we've now got Lucas and Clemmie and even though he's not seen or heard at the moment, he's not out of the picture. So yeah, there's always potential for him to pop up and do some damage."

Their pregnancy certainly won't run smoothly, as with all soap stories. Olivia explained: "I think it’ll be quite a meaty storyline as well. I think there's a lot of twists and turns and it’ll be good for us as actors to play that."
