Every job that involves working with customers and hospitality will inevitably expose servers to nightmare customers and horror stories. Some diners can be the most entitled, inconsiderate people you can imagine. However, this story takes it to the next level. Syd routinely reenacts incidents she's encountered while working as a server in a restaurant on TikTok. Her followers regularly empathize with her work-life struggles and comment with their own stories.
In a recent post, she acts out a time a large wedding party arrived at her restaurant, less than then minutes before it was due to close, and demanded the restaurant stay open for their party. “We’re a wedding party. I’m the father of the bride. We’ll pay you any amount of money to stay open longer so that we can get a couple rounds of drinks,” she reenacts as the rude customer in her skit.
Syd informs the party they sadly can't do this as it would jeopardize the restaurant's liquor license, “But what we can do is get as many of you folks in and as many rounds in the next seven minutes,” she said helpfully. The rude customer boldly dismissed her and said, “That’s fine I will be talking to your manager anyway.
Alright, boys go ahead and start rearranging every single table in this restaurant into whatever order that we decide fit.” Syd and her coworkers obviously protested the wedding party rearranging the restaurant furniture, right before closing, but it fell on deaf ears. “Excuse me guys - like I said we close in six minutes. We can’t have you rearranging all of the furniture in our restaurant including about 60 tables that you’ve somehow moved," she said.

The entitled customer replied: “Like I said, we’re paying to be here, we can do whatever we want. And if I didn’t say this already, again I am the father of the bride.” Exasperated, Syd said: “I hear you. We are also not your wedding venue. I do want to let you know at this point of the night it’s just beer and wine.”
The rude customer disregarded her again and ordered 48 shots of tequila. Syd looked at her watch, “Let’s see can he pour those in four and a half minutes?”. After a drink, it was time for the wedding party to finally leave. “Alright, the bartender said everything is closing down so you can go ahead and put everything on my card.” Said the brash father-of-the-bride.
Syd took the card payment and handed him the tip receipt. He looked dead in the eye and screwed up the tip receipt defiantly, as Syd's blood boiled. “Excuse me, sir. I’m going to need you to sign this, it’s where you’ll write your tip. And of course, sign it.” She protested angrily.
Continuing his rude attitude, he replied: “It’s alright, I’m good. And why would I tip you to do so 15 minutes worth of work it’s just your job.” Syd, angrily protested his mean-spirited rudeness when she said, “Sir you had 50 people come into our restaurant, ten minutes before we close, rearrange the entire thing.
We had to remove dozens of glasses that had already been set away in dish to accommodate you. And now we also have to spend the next 45 minutes cleaning up after you. That’s why you tip.” Again, he didn’t mind how much he angered the servers when he answered: “Miss, I live in Virginia. You will never see me again. I will never see any of you again. I will not be tipping. See ya.”
Syd's hilarious post got over 400k views, people commented on such an out-of-line behaviour: “As a southerner, the magic phrase is, "oh my apologies, sir. Since you said 'pay anything', I thought you could afford a tip. Bless your heart."
Another added: “And they never allowed another soul enter their doors in their last 30 minutes of operation ever, ever again.” Someone who works in another restaurant chimed in: “It’s always the last-minute people who don’t tip like we need to add some type of inconvenience fee.” Another commenter wrote: “Parties larger than 8, have 20 percent gratuity added.”
