Dragon's Dogma 2 release date may be sooner than you think

Dragon's Dogma 2 has been rated by the Saudi Arabia ratings board, suggesting a release date for the game may be imminent.

Dragon's Dogma 2 was finally announced at the PlayStation Showcase back in May – almost 11 years to the day since the original Dragon's Dogma was first released back on the PS3 and Xbox 360. However, since then, details have been pretty scarce, barring Capcom's Tokyo Game Show presentation, where some gameplay details were confirmed to coincide with Dragon's Dogma 2 previews being published. Shockingly, however, a release date wasn't confirmed alongside it – this is especially surprising since Capcom in recent years typically hasn't announced games unless they'll be out in less than a year (barring rare cases like Pragmata).

That seems like it's about to change, however, as the Saudi Arabia ratings board have released a rating for Dragon's Dogma 2 (via VGAR_SA on Twitter). The game has received an 18+ rating presumably due to the violence present in the game (the first game opens with your heart getting torn out of your chest by a dragon, to give you some context).

Waiting for the hunt

However, there is another wrinkle to this. During a Capcom earnings report back in July it was reported that an "unannounced title" that was likely to sell millions would be released before the end of March 2024. Considering that the company was sure that the game would sell millions of copies and that we already had new Resident Evil and Street Fighter games recently, the label of 'unannounced' ruled out Dragon's Dogma. So, naturally, we expected this would mean that the secret title would be the next entry in the Monster Hunter series, especially considering Monster Hunter World and Monster Hunter Rise are Capcom's two best-selling games of all time.

However, Capcom recently released an English Q&A alongside the latest financial reports that listed it as an "undisclosed title" rather than an unannounced one, suggesting the original report was a mistranslation.

So we're now expecting Dragon's Dogma 2 to be in our hands before the end of March 2024. But in terms of when we'll find out for sure, The Game Awards seems like a sure-fire bet. Capcom will undoubtedly be present at the event considering Resident Evil 4 and Street Fighter 6 are among the most nominated games this year, so a Dragon's Dogma 2 trailer is probably a safe prediction.

However, even if we aren't getting Monster Hunter 6 by March as we'd originally hoped, I highly doubt we'll go through 2024 without hearing about the next Monster Hunter – especially considering it's the franchise's 20th anniversary. Capcom has never shied away from releasing two major titles each year, so we may even see Monster Hunter 6 release before the end of 2024.
