These weather maps have predicted when the UK can expect to see a substantial amount of snow - and it is sooner than we might expect.

Maps from WX Charts show large patches of purple, which symbolises snow, coming across Scotland and the northern part of England late on November 24 and throughout November 25.

Further ahead, the same weather charts have the white stuff sweeping across the UK including Northern Ireland, Wales and further south in England on November 28 and 29. Earlier forecasts have predicted snow to fall this week in the Scottish highlands specifically in the Cairngorms where temperatures are expected to plummet to -5C.

These latest maps from WX Charts show a larger area of expected snowfall, meaning more people will be affected. It is too early to tell if any cold weather alerts are on the cards. The alerts come from the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) and issue warnings and advice when temperatures drop. The last alert that was issued was between March 13 and 16.

Speaking about snow this week, meteorologist Sean Batty, told Press and Journal: “After an unsettled week this week with further spells of wind and rain, the models are hinting at low-pressure clearing east followed on by a high-pressure system extending into the Arctic.

"This would allow a cold northerly airflow to develop across the UK which could bring a spell of snow to the north of the country followed by a more settled spell with clear skies which is the sort of scenario which can lead to very cold nights."

In the recent video forecast from the Met Office, forecaster Alex Burkill said of this week: “A cloudier picture further north, some showery outbreaks of rain, some of these could be a little bit heavy at times and perhaps even a little bit of wintriness over the very highest ground of Scotland. Temperatures in the north with the cloud are going to be a little on the low side, most places staying in single figures here.”

Last December, significant snow fell across large parts of the UK after the 'Troll from Trondheim' blanketed the country.
