Strictly's Kai Widdrington's furious response to Angela Rippon 'fix' claims

Strictly Come Dancing star Kai Widdrington has defended Angela Rippon amid 'fix' claims.

Angry viewers of the BBC Latin and ballroom show branded the show a 'fix' when Angela made it through last week over Channel 4 newsreader Krishnan Guru Murthy. She had been in the dance off the week before, where Adam Thomas was sent home.

The show was hit by fix claims by angry fans who fumed that Angela made it through because of her connections with Blackpool, with the presenter having hosted the original Come Dancing from the Tower Ballroom decades ago.

Over the weekend, one fan wrote: "So Craig gives Angela R and Ellie the same score #Strictly !!! Fix," whilst another added: "Actually cba to watch strictly now. The favouritism and blatant fix to get Angela to Blackpool is a f***ing joke. She was stomping and hunched over like a Disney villain, made a mistake but the judges were praising her like she smashed it. @bbcstrictly sort it out #strictly."

During an appearance on It Takes Two this evening, Angela discussed her dance off routine. When asked by host Fleur East about her performance, she said: "The dance was quite different from anything we've done before. People expect it to be a strong dace with a strong body and technical footwork, but there's passionate and timing and that's what we sort of cracked."

When Fleur mentioned that their chance of going to Blackpool was riding on that dance, Kai said: "Angela's been there before, we were there the week before. There was no way on earth I was letting you go home even if we completely fell off the [side of the dancefloor]. We did enough, we had a good score. I think you deserved your place at Blackpool so."

At the weekend, annoyed fans branded the show unfair and said Angela had been overmarked.

One viewer took to Twitter to share: "Strictly is fixed. Angela's Paso looked like he was dragging a corpse of Queen Victoria round yet it scored Higher than Bobby. Total fix #strictly," with a fourth writing: "Angela Rippon over scored by the judges again… BBC want her to get through to Blackpool. The inconsistent scoring is spoiling this series #strictly #fix."

The remaining seven contestants will make their way to Blackpool this weekend
