The blood-curdling trailer for the horror Christmas movie Terrifier 3 has been released, leaving terrified viewers hiding behind their sofas.

Director Damien Leone launched the Terrifier franchise back in 2016, introducing audiences to the horrifying Art the Clown, a mysterious serial killer with supernatural powers, who has a thirst for murder.

For the third instalment, the film’s setting has been moved from Halloween to Christmas, with Art resembling a nightmare version of Santa Claus in the chilling trailer. The clip opens with a spine-chilling scene showing a little girl encountering not jolly St Nick, but Art the Clown, in her home on Christmas morning.

Terrifier 3 is set to be released on 25 October 2024, and later on the streaming service Screambox.

Director Damien has vowed this third movie in his horror saga will be the scariest and darkest chapter so far, and he’s promised to move away from the supernatural elements of Terrifier 2, and will return to a more slasher-style film.

Art the Clown, played by David Howard Thornton, has developed a cult-like following since he made his debut back in 2016, and fans will be delighted at his eerie return.

The first movie, which was made on a budget of just $35,000, centred on two sisters - Tara and Victoria - who became the target of Art the Clown on Halloween, and desperately tried to evade his thirst for killing. At the end of the first movie, Art was seemingly killed, but when examined by a coroner at a morgue, he unexpectedly came back to life and killed him, fuelling rumours a sequel would be made.

Terrifier 2 was released in 2022, and follows the murderous clown one year after the events in the first film, as he hunts down teenage girl Sienna and her brother Jonathan on Halloween. At the end of the film, Art’s death is called into question, despite him being decapitated and killed several times, and audiences were horrified when the final scene showed Victoria giving birth to the clown’s living head.

The horror sequel was a big financial and critical success, and raked in more than $15million, which was a huge profit for the low-budget film. Production on the movie was affected by the Covid pandemic and subsequent Hollywood shutdown, putting the hotly-anticipated horror project on hold.
