Man Utd chiefs make 'frustrated' decision as stance on Ten Hag future clear

Manchester United have been left frustrated by football agents attempting to pitch their clients as potential replacements for manager Erik ten Hag.

United have endured a difficult start to the season, suffering nine defeats in 18 games across all competitions so far. They currently sit sixth in the Premier League, bottom of their Champions League group and have already been eliminated from the Carabao Cup.

It has been United's worst start to a new campaign since 1962 and prompted speculation Ten Hag could be sacked, with former Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane and current Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim both linked as potential replacements.

However, according to a new report from ESPN, Ten Hag currently 'retains the faith of key club officials' who believe they have seen 'signs of progress' over the past week with United securing 1-0 wins over Luton and Fulham but suffering a 4-3 defeat to Copenhagen.

The report adds that club chiefs have 'become frustrated by attempts by agents to push coaches into the running for Ten Hag's position' and are now refusing to meet with those they believe are looking to pitch potential replacements.

One agent who represents a manager that is currently out of work is said to have had a meeting cancelled due to fears the Dutchman's future would be the main topic of discussion. Speaking after Victor Lindelof's goal earned United all three points against Luton, Ten Hag insisted they were in a "very good position" to finish in the top four.

"Even after all the setbacks we dealt with, we are still in a position near the top four and when we start to play well and get a team that is set for weeks and months [then maybe] other teams will get their setbacks and drop points," he said at his post-match press conference.

"Now we have won four games out of five in the Premier League, we are in quite a good position if you see all the trouble we had, we are in a very good position. That is a reason to be optimistic.

"We needed the win and we got it, but we could make life easier by scoring early on and getting a second. I am happy with [the winner] and I am happy with the clean sheet."
