Odegaard's Arsenal absence down to concussion fears after training incident

Martin Odegaard missed Arsenal’s games against Newcastle and Sevilla due to concussion fears.

Gunners captain Odegaard took a blow to the face in training the day before the Newcastle game after being hit by a ball. Odegaard then missed the Sevilla game because of another issue but was pulled out of the squad for Newcastle game after undergoing concussion protocols.

The details of Odegaard’s lay-off emerged after he did not report up for Norway and will remain in London for treatment on a hip injury which had troubled him previously. Concussion rules state players must rest for six days and be symptom free before returning to action.

Odegaard subsequently missed last Wednesday’s victory over Sevilla before missing Saturday’s Premier League win over Burnley. He will miss Norway’s fixtures against the Faroe Islands and Scotland but that will allow him to recover from the hip problem and he should be fit to play for Arsenal after the international break.

Meanwhile, Brazil have exercised their right to examine Gabriel Jesus’ fitness despite the Gunners forward not featuring for Arsenal since October 24 due to a hamstring injury. Jesus will have to report up and be examined.
