Robert Sanchez insists Chelsea have got their sights set on getting back into the Champions League places.
Chelsea finished way down in 12th last season, they are without European football and yet are showing signs of life under Mauricio Pochettino. They are also becoming the big entertainers after hitting eight goals in their last two games in a thrilling win at Tottenham and then sharing a draw in a Premier League classic with Manchester City.
But it has given a glimpse of the potential at Stamford Bridge as Pochettino has always maintained that there is never any room for a season of transition at Chelsea. Chelsea keeper Sanchez also insists the belief is growing within the squad and they are now chasing a place back among Europe’s elite next season.
Sanchez said: “Of course, we only take it game-by-game but we want to do our best possible. We hope to get in Europe or the Champions League again. I think it is impossible, if we keep improving in every game and getting points in every game then I think it is possible. It is a big ask but we’ve got spirit confidence, belief and the quality we have that we can get there.
“I think the fans can see it. It is what we talk about in the dressing room that we are building that confidence and with that comes spirit as well. We are just fighting and we feel we can win any game.”

Pochettino also showed his determination and desire at the end of the City game as he ended up apologising for losing the plot and storming onto the pitch to confront referee Anthony Taylor to interrupt a counterattack to blow the full-time whistle. But Sanchez insisted the players feed off that energy as he also said the 4-4 draw with Premier League leaders City shows they can compete with the best.

Sanchez said: “Exactly, that’s what we are trying to build we want to get back to the top. He had that adrenaline, that’s what we are here for, it’s football. We went toe-to-toe with City - we know how good we are on counterattacks as well. We played quick and fast and we did that and got four goals out of it.
“That’s the message that we can compete with anyone. If we keep doing the same as last week when we got the win, this week we got the draw but I think we could have got the win and next week we hopefully get the win again. I think we are coming out of a tough run and I think we can get more and more to get near the top like we deserve.
“I’ve been saying it in every interview, we need time. It’s a young, new team and we don’t know each other. We need time to know each other, build relationships and know our strengths from different players and that’s what we are doing. I think you can see on the pitch that we are improving with every game, more and more, connecting on the pitch and feeling good now. This can only go higher.”
Sanchez also insisted that the City display was Chelsea’s best under Pochettino and there is still more to come. He added: “I am super happy, I know the boys were super ready before the game and we came back in the game three times. It shows you should never give up.
“I think we are improving more and more. I think in some games we were a bit unlucky but, yes, I think it is true that in these types of games sometimes you feel inside a bit more of the energy against big teams but I think the boys are doing great in every game.”
