Conor McGregor's manager teases Jake Paul fight with new admission

Conor McGregor's manager has opened the door for the Irishman to potentially fight Jake Paul in MMA.

YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul was pushing for a fight against McGregor after ditching his internet fame for a career in the ring. His call-outs of the UFC legend toned down after beating Nate Diaz in August, as Paul said on Mike Tyson's Hotboxin' podcast: "I said that I would fight him in MMA but he doesn't seem like he's in the right headspace to fight."

McGregor is gearing up for his highly-anticipated UFC return having not fought since breaking his leg in July 2021. The former two-weight world champion is expected to fight Michael Chandler in April and his manager Audie Attar is open to the idea of a crossover fight against Paul.

"I think anything’s always possible. You never say never. It’s all about how things line up. I think the challenge with combat sports is looking that far ahead. You never say never. Getting back into the octagon is step one, going in and handling business there. Then, not looking past that, but then, obviously, when you get past that, look at your options and see what’s next," Attar told Fox.

Paul signed with rival MMA promotion PFL at the beginning of this year as he will likely make his MMA debut in the organisation's pay-per-view super-fight division next year. The UFC would have to co-promote with the PFL for a fight between McGregor and Paul to take place, something UFC boss Dana White has ruled out.

White was asked about the possibility of working with the rival promotion to make a fight between former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou and Jon Jones, who won Ngannou's belt after the Cameroonian left the UFC in January. White poured cold water on any chance of co-promoting with the PFL in a damning reply.

“I’m not interested," he said. "We tried to make that fight. They didn’t want to do it. It’s done. He doesn’t fight here any more. I’m not interested. It's a stupid question, but go ahead talk to me. Why would I do that? I should co-promote with like a Bellator or a PFL? Why should I do that? Talk to me, because of ESPN?"
