Jurgen Klopp still has plenty to smile about despite a setback in the Europa League on Thursday night.

Liverpool were the red-hot favourites ahead of their trip to Toulouse but left France empty-handed following a dramatic 3-2 defeat. The Reds are still in pole position to qualify, though and remain top of Group E with nine points from four games.

Klopp and co will be bidding to bounce back from their European loss with a positive result against Brentford on Sunday. A victory would keep Liverpool in the mix with Manchester City at the Premier League summit heading into the final international break of the year. Here, Mirror Football rounds up all the latest news from in and around Anfield...

Klopp makes Alexander-Arnold admission

Jurgen Klopp has admitted that he could follow Gareth Southgate 's lead and nudge Trent Alexander-Arnold forward into midfield. The talented Reds full-back has been used in a hybrid role this season by Klopp but is classified as a midfielder for his country. Klopp has previously been outspoken about adopting such a stance with the 25-year-old, however, it now seems as though he's changed his mind.

There is a chance Alexander-Arnold could play in midfield for Sunday's match against Brentford with Alexis Mac Allister suspended with Klopp currently considering his options.

However, Brighton have moved swiftly to tie the Republic of Ireland international down to a new long-term contract - meaning the Reds will have to look elsewhere for a new No.9.

Former Liverpool star Dean Saunders believes Alexis Mac Allister has been underwhelming since moving to Anfield in the summer. The Argentina international joined the Reds from Brighton and has featured regularly in Jurgen Klopp's new-look midfield.

But Saunders has yet to be impressed by the midfield maestro, who was an influential figure in a team that punched well above their weight last year. Saunders insists he is "not convinced" by Mac Allister, who is set to miss Sunday's match against Brentford due to suspension.
