The mugshot of a scowling mum accused of killing her two little children has been revealed by police.

Tiffanie Lucas, 32, is accused of murdering her two young children in cold blood in their bedroom. The mum - facing two murder charges - was arrested and charged by Bullitt County Sheriff’s Office, and booked in at the Bullitt County Detention Center at 3.45pm.

The two children ages six and nine were found after worried neighbour is said to have thought something was wrong and entered the house.

The neighbour then made the shocking discovery of the two children in a bedroom covered in blood. A gun was also found on the bed.

Police rushed to the scene in Shepherdsville, Kentucky, US, and took both children to Norton’s Children's Hospital 30 minutes away in Louisville. Both were dying from gunshot wounds.

The two little children died from their injuries at the children's hospital by 2.50pm, having gone into surgery, despite the best efforts of medics. "We are currently very early in the investigation and at this time a person of interest has been detained from the shooting scene," the sheriff's office said.

"The investigation is in its early stages and once more information becomes available, it may be released. At this time, it appears all parties in relation to this incident have been accounted for and there is no threat to the community."

Horrified neighbour Steve Steier told WLKY: "It's sad, I mean what's this world come to for a mother to shoot her two children like that."

While another neighbour, Amanda Mangis, said: "It's devastating, I mean as a mother I can't imagine thinking that's the only way." On Facebook, people rushed to pay tribute to the two boys, with one person writing that one of the boys was a "sweet little boy."

They wrote: "I remember going to every Walmart one year hunting down your bumble bee costume... You loved bumble bee transformer."

The Facebook user added: "You [were] a sweet soul! You didn't deserve this! You or your little brother. 9 years and 6 years is way too young to die.

"Rest in peace with your dad. Yall both deserved so much better. Y'all all angels now." Reports indicate Lucas is being held on $2 million bond.
