Coleen Rooney says husband Wayne proposed to her in a petrol station
Coleen Rooney has exposed footballer Wayne's petrol station proposal.
The WAG opened up in her new memoir, My Account: The Official Autobiography, about her marriage and family with Wayne – including how they got engaged. The couple were just 16 when they first got together, with Wayne popping the question when they were 17.
He had a romantic proposal lined up but it didn't go quite to plan. The pair were on their way to a Chinese restaurant where Wayne was going to get down on one knee, but Coleen changed her mind.
The now 37-year-old said that she changed her mind on the way as they stopped at the petrol station. Taking the opportunity, Wayne decided to propose in the car that evening.

Wayne was never very good at keeping things under wraps or containing his excitement about something. He'd already told me he was having a ring made especially for me; I just wasn't sure it was an engagement ring.

"On the night it happened, 1 October 2023, he'd planned a date at a Chinese restaurant - nothing special, it was just local to where we lived. On the way there in the car, we started bickering over something - I can't even remember what now, but whatever it was must have put me in a bit of a mood.
"As we pulled in at a petrol station, I folded my arms and sighed. 'Do you know? I don't really feel like going for something to eat now.' 'No neither do I,' Wayne said, turning off the car engine. 'Only, the thing is, while we were there, I was going to do this...'"
Coleen then went on to describe how Wayne pulled out an engagement ring. However, he was unable to get down on one knee due to the two of them being sat in the car.
She added: "Before I knew it, I had an emerald-cut diamond ring on my finger, and I rang mum mum and dad to tell them our big news. Little did I know, he'd already asked my dad's permission, so they knew it was coming." The newly-engaged couple set off on their way back home and were met with candles and bottle of champagne as well as an engagement dinner of corned-beef hash.
Noting that it wasn't "the most romantic of proposals", Coleen said she hadn't expected Wayne to pop the question "under the lights of an Esso garage". She said: "It's no the image a girl conjures up when she thinks about a marriage proposal, as a rule."
