Strictly Come Dancing star Amy Dowden has shared a heartwarming health update ahead of her eighth and final round of chemotherapy treatment.

The ballroom and latin dancer took to Instagram to share a picture ahead of her final round of chemotherapy. She wrote: "It’s chemo number 8! The last one! We are finally here. I’ve cried all morning! Right an afternoon of chemo and then I’m so lucky and grateful to be able to ring that bell!

"Will never take it for granted! Thank you to the incredible Sheldon Unit! You are all amazing #nhs, all #trueheroes. Right here goes! See you all later."

The Strictly star later shared a photo next to the chemotherapy bell with two other patients as she revealed all three of them would ring the bell today. She captioned the post: "Today all three of us ring that chemo bell! 32,35 and 26 when all diagnosed with breast cancer so please this is a note from us three to check your chest! Cancer doesn’t discriminate! Our wish to you all is the remember to monthly check!"

Members of the extended Strictly family shared their support as former contestant Michelle Visage wrote: "WE LOVE YOU AMY." Molly Rainford added: "Sending love and hugs."

Amy took to her Instagram Stories to share updates from her day, which included a clip showing a selection of sweet treats. She wrote: "Treats for the incredible Sheldon unit! Although I'll still be there once a month for treatment for five years there is no way I would have got through chemo without the incredible care from the unit. Honestly they go beyond for all their patients and I'm forever grateful to you all."

The Strictly star previously explained to her fans why her final chemotherapy appointment is not the end of her treatment. She said: "Well, I’m kind of not done, because for five years - I was a bit gutted when I found this out – I have to go back to the chemo ward. Obviously, I love all the nurses there, they're incredible, the whole team are – but I have to go back and have an injection once a month. It’s either that, or have my ovaries removed, which I obviously don’t want."
