Prince George could soon be on his way to boarding school like his father Prince William before him, despite mum Kate Middleton's reservations.

According to a royal insider the couple have made up their minds and will be sending their eldest son, and second in line to the throne, to one of the country's most prestigious boarding schools - Eton College. A source claims that the Princess of Wales is dreading the time when her son packs up and leaves for boarding school, but has accepted that it's part of his destiny as a royal.

The Prince and Princess of Wales were seen touring round Eton College's headquarters with the young heir in June which sparked speculation about whether or not George would attend the same school as his father William and uncle Prince Harry in just a few years time.

However, another potential school has been thrown into the mix for the young prince, Kate's alma mater Marlborough College. According to the Daily Mail's Richard Eden, the princess was seen paying a visit to her former school, leading to speculation it could be considered for George. And if George ends up enrolled at Marlborough, it would see him become the first future King to complete his compulsory education in all co-ed establishments, as Marlborough admits both girls and boys.

An insider said: "Kate long disagreed with her husband about sending him away, even though it’s tradition. Kate thinks sending him to such a stuffy, upper-crust institution goes against all of their efforts to modernise the monarchy. Plus, she’ll miss George desperately. She and William argued about it for years, but he has finally won.”

Eton is only a nine-minute drive away from the family's home after the Prince and Princess of Wales relocated to Adelaide Cottage in Windsor in 2022 and moved all three of their children to the local Lambrook school. The source suggested that George, 10, would be able to visit his family every weekend while at Eton like his father used to with his grandparents when they were in residence at Windsor Castle while he was a student.

Speaking to In Touch Weekly, the royal insider added: "But she’s still heartbroken. She was horribly bullied at her first boarding school, and can’t bear the thought of George suffering through that.”

Eton's entrance exam consists of a 150-minute verbal and mental reasoning test, in which candidates will generally require a score of 125 or above to be considered.
