Emmerdale's Bernice 'on the run' after crime that leaves family at risk

Emmerdale is set for explosive scenes next week when Bernice Blackstock seemingly goes on the run due to a fraudulent twenty grand debt.

In upcoming scenes, Jimmy King's shock and anger deepens as he discovers enforcement agents have seized their belongings due to a fraudulent twenty grand debt and the culprit Bernice is now seemingly on the run. Meanwhile, Bob Hope is aghast to learn she has neglected to pay suppliers whilst daughter Gabby Thomas is crestfallen over her mother's abandonment again.

Later, Jimmy confronts wife Nicola's reluctance to report Bernice's fraud while teenager Cathy Hope's casual attitude raises suspicions with Nicola, who is determined to find her sister. Meanwhile, Bernice hides out in Brook Cottage, fearing prison if Nicola reports her and Cathy secretly updates Bernice on the reaction on the outside.

However, it's not long until Nicola finds her and blocks her escape, but at the last moment, Bernice stays. Eventually, Bernice confesses the reason behind her fraud but Nicola is hard lined, threatening it's the police or accept her deal. What will Bernice do? It comes as Samantha Giles has quit her role as Bernice on the ITV soap after 25 years, with her final scenes set to air in a matter of days.

Last month, Bernice appeared on This Morning with Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary where she discussed her love of witchcraft before confirming she has quit the soap. Towards the end of their chat, she was asked if she was leaving the soap, to which she said she was but hadn't announced it officially yet, as she planned her new career path.

Bernice played a big part in the Nicky and Caleb storyline, with her daughter Gabby nearly getting married to nanny Nicky before he called off the wedding after announcing he was gay. Bernice has also led an important menopause storyline. Samantha has opened up to The Mirror in the past about her own experience with the menopause. She said: "I think it is important to be open about stuff like that, because someone else might think, 'I was feeling like that, too'. Sometimes it just reminds you that, actually, you're not going mad, it's just hormones."

Asked how people had responded so far, she added: "At the beginning, it was a bit mixed as some people were wondering why they had given this story to a 'comedy' character. But I think that's the point. This happens to everyone, even someone like Bernice. Just because she's a fun character, it doesn't mean that she won't be dealing with something like this and it won't be really debilitating."

Sources had previously claimed that Bernice's exit storyline won't see her killed off, so she could return in the future. It's claimed the soap star - who has had four stints on the show and three exits since her arrival in 1998 - could be back one day.
