'Common hotel trick' keeps your bed toasty all night without central heating
As the nights draw in and the days get shorter heading into winter, many will struggle to stay warm in bed at night. For those who can't afford to keep their heating on constantly or who don't want to because they prefer a cooler temperature at night, there's a simple way to have the best of both worlds.
The Sleep Charity advises that the ideal temperature for the best quality slumber is between 16-18 degrees celsius and anything above 24 degrees can actually have a negative impact on sleep - causing restlessness.
But during the colder months it's harder to stay snug in bed, which can also lead to waking up and experiencing disturbed sleep.
Thankfully, design and lifestyle expert Sarah Gunn has shared her hack to keep toasty warm at night and it simply involves adding a few extra pieces of bedding. However, Sarah doesn't advise these go on top of you, she recommends they go underneath your body, in a technique she calls 'triple-sheeting'.
She shared the tip on her TikTok page titled ;How to keep your bed warm in the winter' and said: "Here's a really simple trick to keeping toasty in your bed all winter long. It's called 'triple sheeting'", the Sun reports. Sarah's technique involves a normal sheet on the bed, with a thin blanket or duvet on top and then another sheet on top of that. "The three of these together act as insulation and keep you cosy and warm all night," she explained.
'I don't want children staying up late at weekends - I really need adult time'
Her followers were impressed with the tip: "Really I never thought of that!" one said. "I will try it next time I change my sheets, thanks for the hack." Another said: "I do this. So cosy," while a third said: "Great tip! "It works!" to which Sarah replied: "Totally does!!"
One follower asked another question regarding the bedding: "What kind of sheets are these? Mine are always so wrinkled." Sarah, whose other posts include 'How to choose a dining room rug' and 'Bridgerton-inspired floral arrangements', replied: "I hear you! These are flannel so they are less wrinkled."
Others weren't as keen on the idea and suggested an electric blanket would do a better job. But Sarah revealed that although they are good, her way is something hotels use to keep out the cold for their guests. "Those are great but this is a common hotel trick that works really well," she said.
