White socks look incredibly smart when they're brand new but unfortunately they rarely stay that way, ending up grey and stained in no time at all no matter how much you wash them.
Children are great at ruining white footwear pretty much immediately and one mum has shared her tips for getting them looking good as new overnight, using two reasonably priced products.
Jenna, who said the hack had "changed her life", revealed how to do it on her TikTok page and showed a collection of dirty socks. Writing over the video, 'How to clean your filthy white Nike socks', she put the items in her sink and added boiling water.
She then poured in a fair amount of Ace Ultra for Whites, which she described as "magical stuff" and followed it up with adding a sachet of Dr Beckmann's whitening powder. You can pick up a litre bottle of Ace Whites for just £1.99 at The Range, and the Dr Beckmann's powder is currently on sale on Amazon for £1.55, meaning the budget hack costs around £3.50 to replicate.
She then stirred the sink load with a wooden spoon and left it overnight. The next morning they were shown looking a lot whiter, but she then added them to her washing machine on a quick hot wash and they emerged looking brand new again, with Jenna adding: "Ta daa," to show how her trick had worked.

Many of her followers appreciated the tip with one posting: "I'm trying it tonight." Another urged a friend who presumably has a collection of filthy white socks to do it, writing: "you need this," and a third tagged a contact and wrote: "we need to do this".

To which Jenna replied: "basically the same thing."
But others were shocked by where Jenna washed her socks: "My mum would've murder me if I ever wash socks in the kitchen sink." Another added: "Noo dirty socks in the sink." A third said: "in the sink Jenna???????" to which she responded: "yes in the sink daz." Another follower was equally horrified by the use of the sink and posted: "Using the kitchen sink and the wooden spoon is wild!!" Another posted: "You wash dishes and prepare food there, whaaat??!"
However someone else suggested they were wrong and there was a way around the hygiene problem: "Does no one in the comments have washing up bowls?? For washing up food bowls separately to the actual sink." Another user offered: "My mum does the same thing just in a tub instead of a sink."
