Chance of white Christmas for UK 'significantly increased' thanks to polar blast
Those dreaming of a picture perfect Christmas have been given a boost as forecasters say the chances of snow on December 25 are “significantly increased”.
Earlier today the Mirror reported we could be facing a blanket of snow in the coming weeks as a result of an Arctic Plume heading our way. One forecaster said the first fall of the white stuff could come in two weeks' time owing to a band of low pressure which could bring icy conditions later in the month as weather conditions turn increasingly wintry. And for those dreaming of a white Christmas, you could get your wish thanks to a cold snap set to envelope the country.

He said: “It is now increasingly likely that we will see at least 1-2 notable wintry blasts from late November and into the first half of December, but it may turn milder or much milder later.
“However, a sudden stratospheric warming event from later this month and into December could change that outlook to an even colder and more wintry theme for many parts of the country, and would drastically change the overall outlook for December as a whole, particularly, during the second half of the month, and increasing our white Christmas chances significantly under such circumstances."
According to the Met Office's from Thursday November 9 to Saturday November 18, the weather remains "predominantly unsettled" across this period as low pressure is "likely to track east across northern areas of the UK at the end of coming weeks, bringing further rain or showers to many areas.
Gales, snow and rain to batter country today with 80mph wind gusts
A spokesperson told Mirror Online: "As [the long range weather forecast] states, conditions are likely to remain generally on the mild side for the time of year, therefore the is a very low chance of seeing snow over the whole of the UK in the coming weeks. There will likely be snow over the Scottish mountains at times (there already has been), but this is normal for the time of year." It comes after Britain was battered this week by Storm Ciaran, which brought winds of up to 100mph and saw the Met Office issue several severe weather warnings.
