Sheffield United took advantage of VAR's controversial call

Gary Lineker took aim at another "stinking decision" as Wolves were on the receiving end of a divisive VAR call once more.

Gary O'Neil's side have become the first side to lose to Sheffield United this season after Oliver Norwood converted a penalty deep into stoppage time. VAR again had its say after choosing not to overturn the decision made by the on field referee, Robert Jones, after George Baldock went down.

Fabio Silva left a foot in, but there appeared to be minimal contact, yet VAR chose to stick by the original decision. Wolves will feel as though lightning has struck once again after they saw a soft penalty given against them last week with Lineker among those to lament the decision this weekend.

He said on Twitter : "Another stinking decision goes against @Wolves. Exactly the same as last week v Newcastle. Another error from VAR."

Wolves have been on the receiving end of several brutal VAR calls, beginning on the opening weekend. O'Neil saw his side denied a late penalty when they lost at Old Trafford. Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana came flying out and collided with a Wolves player, but nothing was given.

Last week Newcastle were awarded a first-half penalty despite there, again, being minimal contact. The referee on that occasion. Anthony Taylor, copped plenty of criticism for his decision and as a result was demoted to Championship duty this week, where he refereed Coventry's lost at Preston.

O'Neil made light of that decision, joking that decisions by officials who take charge of Wolves games end up in the second tier. He said: "I saw the numbers in the review they do on Tuesday which was 5-0 in favour of a penalty not being given on-field, and 4-1 in favour of it not being overturned by VAR.

"I think Anthony Taylor's doing the Championship game this weekend - that's three referees who've been relegated on the back of refereeing us, so you need to be careful when you referee Wolves because you could end up getting relegated the following week!

"That's Man Utd, Luton and Wolves now. I haven't received an apology and I don't want one. They're not going to help, but hopefully the level improves."
