Harrowing moment 'biryani killer' confesses how he slit throat of love rival

A chilling interview tape shows the harrowing confession from the so-called "poisoned biryani killer" who murdered the husband of his lover by slitting his throat.

Gurpreet Singh spoke candidly about how he bludgeoned his childhood pal Sukhjit Singh 34, with a hammer before slaughtering him while he was sleeping at his mum's house in India back in 2016.

Sukhjit's wife Ramandeep Kaur Mann, 38, a housewife from Derby, was handed a death sentence earlier this month in India after a court heard how she laced his biryani with sedatives so he was weakened when Gurpreet, 32, entered their family home to murder him. Gurpreet has been sentenced to life imprisonment for his role in the killing.

Gurpreet was arrested and interviewed by police in India, with a chilling chlip showing him unreservedly describing the motive behind the killing. He claimed the pair dreamed up the murder plot after Ramandeep became "sick and tired" of his drug abuse and alleged abusive behaviour.

In the video, obtained by the MailOnline, he says: "I received a phone call from her, and she said 'he's beating me, he doesn't stop. I'm going to kill him, or he'll kill me. Please help me. Bring me some things to kill him. I need a knife and a hammer.' Then I bought them."

Speaking about the act, he added: "She was smothering him with a pillow. I hit him with a hammer over the head. She said, 'he's still not dead.' So, she gave me the knife I bought with me.

"She gave me the knife and I cut his throat. He was still struggling for breath even after he'd been smothered and hit over the head. I got very scared about what might happen because I'd done such a serious thing."

Gurpreet then fled and tried to board a flight to Dubai, where he usually lived, but was arrested. In the video, he explained that the pair's affair began after Ramandeep began confiding in him about her husband's abusive behaviour. In her trial, the court heard how the relationship started when she visited Dubai to see him during a family holiday in December 2015.

He said: "She was sick and tired of it all. When he used drugs, he would beat her. She said to him you should be ashamed. He was lying all the time, saying that he didn't take drugs. That's why they didn't get on."

After visiting Dubai, the pair then travelled to India to visit the victim's mother and to travel around the country. Gurpreet said he received a call from Ramandeep telling him to come to the village of Bastantapur, which was a 12-hour train journey away and the location of Sukhjit's mother's home.

When he arrived, Ramandeep opened the front gate to allow him in, while her husband was sound asleep with their two sons. Once they crept up to his room, Ramandeep then told him to "hit him with a hammer", and he followed the order.
