Manchester United have added three strikers to their shortlist for the January transfer window in a bid to relieve pressure on Rasmus Hojlund.

Hojlund arrived at United for £72million in the summer, but has struggled to live up to his price tag, having failed to score in the Premier League. Though he has shown bright flashes and registered three Champions League goals, the Red Devils believe he needs more support.

Anthony Martial is the only other recognised centre-forward at Old Trafford, though the Frenchman is out of favour under Erik ten Hag. It is a situation club chiefs are looking to rectify in January, given United's awful start to the season.

According to the Daily Mail, a support striker for Hojlund is at the top of the Red Devils' shopping list. There is said to be a sense that the Danish international would benefit from having an experienced striker for a team-mate.

The club's recruitment staff are now on the search for experienced talent up-front. The first name on their list is Brentford star Ivan Toney, who United are known to be monitoring.

Toney is expected to return to action in January after the end of his ban for betting offences, with the Bees slapping a £100m price tag on his head. Arsenal are still looking to sign him in that window, though United could challenge the Premier League title contenders.

The next name on their list is Mehdi Taremi who was previously linked with a move to Old Trafford in the summer. Taremi has starred for Porto since joining them in 2022, scoring 83 goals in 160 appearances.

Though his campaign has started slowly, the fact his contract is up at the end of the season could interest United. Finally, Victor Osimhen remains under consideration after a failed move in the summer.

Osimhen was top scorer in Serie A last season as Napoli won the Italian title, though he is unsettled at the reigning champions. While Hojlund has failed to fire in the top-flight, boss Ten Hag remains confident he will come good.

“I think he’s a player who will always be in scoring positions in our team. I am sure, and I am confident he will score goals, and Marcus Rashford the same. First of all, we have to work our routines, he misses pre-season, the first four games," he said last week.

"But I think from the moment he came in, he gave the team a lot. We’re building the routines and that spilt moment will give him more time and to make better decisions for more goals, but the goals against Galatasaray were brilliant, also the one in Munich.”
