Matthew Perry's cryptic 'Mattman' posts in days before death finally explained

Matthew Perry 's Mattman posts left fans concerned and believing he was sending subliminal messages before his tragic death.

The 54-year-old was found dead over the weekend after suffering from accidental drowning and was found "unresponsive" by his assistant. Now, the mystery woman Matthew had a secret dinner with just 24 hours before his death has revealed the true meaning behind his Mattman posts.

The former Friends star's last Instagram posts centred around his favourite superhero franchise, and he would regularly sign off the posts as "Mattman" in the caption alongside many of the pictures. In his first Batman-based post, Matthew filmed what appeared to be his bedroom, with several screens surrounding the bed to play a film from the series.

"No need to worry everybody, I've got the streets tonight," he wrote in the caption for one post, and in another he put: "Sleep well everybody, I've got the city tonight -Mattman." Concerned fans took to the comments of the cryptic posts, asking if this was Matthew's call for help.

One wrote: "So Matt, you do know there are a few of us who are a little concerned about you right now? I am hoping you’re just having a little silly fun or you’re hinting at a new project," before a second added: "Anyone else find this concerning? He rarely posts. Then posts near daily, but only about Batman with cryptic captions? Then he’s dead in a really strange way? I’m not sure I’m following."

Athenna Crosby - who dined with Matt on Friday - told TMZ that he was "really into Batman" and went as far as calling himself "Mattman" and calling his car a "Batmobile." She told the publication that he was a "playful guy in the months she knew him" and "the conspiracy theory he was pushing subliminal messages about his safety by using the superhero reference is way off." Athena explained that his "Mattman" posts were simply him "being a nerd" and added that fans are getting carried away.

The model and entertainment reporter told social media that she "had the honour of knowing Matthew personally" and insisted that the pair were simply friends and had met for a catch-up a day before his death and had met through a mutual friend a few months ago.
