Princess Charlotte's first tiara moment may be far earlier than her mother's

Royal fans are already counting down the days until Princess Charlotte's very first tiara moment. But when exactly will that be? For many royal women, it is on their wedding day - and this was the case for Charlotte's mother Kate Middleton, who famously borrowed the Cartier Halo Tiara from the late Queen Elizabeth for her big day.

Even blood members of the royal family, including the Queen's granddaughter Princess Eugenie, Princess Beatrice and Zara Tindall, didn't sport the sparkling headpieces until their nuptials.

But Charlotte may well instead follow in the footsteps of Princess Anne and Princess Margaret – the late Queen's sister – who both wore tiaras ahead of their weddings.

Anne – the only daughter of the Queen and Prince Philip – first wore a tiara at the tender age of 17, and again for her 21st birthday picture. This might be a tradition Charlotte follows, choosing to debut her first tiara in a portrait to commemorate a landmark moment, such as her 18th or 21st.

There is a reason Princess Anne and Princess Margaret, were able to wear tiaras to gala events ahead of their wedding. It's likely because they - unlike the women marrying into the royal family or Queen Elizabeth's granddaughters - were working members of the royal family.

And as the granddaughter of King Charles, the daughter of heir Prince William, and sister of future monarch Prince George, Charlotte is highly likely to be a working member of the royal family someday. With that in mind, we could see Charlotte making her tiara debut at an official event, such as a state banquet - as her mother has done.

Kate has only worn a tiara a total of 14 times since her wedding day; most recently, when she and Prince William attended the royal wedding of Jordan's Prince Hussein and Rajwa Al Saif. She typically wears the Lover's Knot tiara or the Lotus Flower tiara—the exception being at her wedding.

Last year, for the first state visit hosted by King Charles, the Princess of Wales opted for the Lover's Knot, and then in December, she wore the Lotus Flower tiara for the Diplomatic Corps reception.

And while Princess Charlotte hasn't worn a tiara yet, she did wear a special headpiece at the Coronation of her grandfather King Charles. The Princess of Wales and her daughter coordinated in Jess Collett x Alexander McQueen headpieces featuring silver bullion, crystal and silver thread work three-dimensional leaf embroidery.
