Davina McCall mystified by Kylie Minogue snub after losing touch with old pal

Davina McCall has told how she’s no longer friends with Kylie Minogue despite once starring in her music video, admitting: “It’s complicated.”

Davina was in Kylie’s 1991 video Word Is Out, just a year before she got her first presenting job. In it she wore a a striped sweater and beret as a reference to her French heritage. She said: “How could I forget dancing for Kylie. It was the highlight of my career. I was quite good friends with Kylie and we used to hang out. We are not friends now. That is too complicated.”

The TV presenter added later: “It is weird you lose touch with people. She changed her phone number and did not give me the new one. No, that is a joke... or is it?” Davina told in a recording of the Richard Herring podcast how she got the job in the first place. She said: “I was running nightclubs at the time and she lost her director of the video and me being the constant hustler I said “If I get you a director, can I be a dancer in your video.”

"I look like her bouncer, I am twice as tall as her and I look as if I am going to punch somebody in the face.” The song was a top-20 hit in the UK, reaching number 16 and ending Minogue’s run of 13 consecutive UK top-10 hits Davina also revealed how she thought Big Brother was X-rated when she first took the job.

She said: "What was funny, I got the Dutch taster tape as it was running in Holland. I was watching it and in Holland they were just s***ging. I was like “My God they have sent me porn.” But I was like “This is really happening. How much intervention is there? I was like 'This is insane', but there were much bigger, famous presenters out there who really wanted the job and I did not think for one minute that I would be offered it.

“I was amazed and for the first few weeks I was so excited and really annoying. I did get messages from people saying they found me profoundly annoying. I lived a whole life on the show. I had all my babies on that series. Holly is 22 now and Chester is now 17. The show was the greatest time of my life and I loved it with all of my heart.”
