Francis Ngannou has hit out at Tyson Fury for landing a "f***ing illegal" elbow during their boxing fight.

Ngannou lost his ring debut this past weekend against Fury but exceeded expectations, dropping the heavyweight champion and only losing by one point in a controversial split decision. The Cameroonian was warned by Fury before their fight that he would be disqualified for using any MMA moves, but it was Fury that ended up being the one that landed a strike with his limbs.

In the sixth round, Fury attempted to throw a right hand but his elbow landed clean on Ngannou's forehead instead of his fist. Ngannou absorbed the illegal shot well and the fight continued without Fury being penalised by referee Michael Griffin. Ngannou posted a video of the illegal blow on his Twitter and wrote: "Unlike the superman punch, this was f**king illegal."

Ngannou just missed when he attempted a superman punch on Fury in the final round, with the move being legal in boxing despite both of his feet coming off the floor. Fury also tried to wrestle Ngannou as he fell to the ground in the seventh round and his questionable techniques didn't go unnoticed by fans.

"Haha homie feels that he’s in an MMA fight now," one user wrote. You would’ve thought Tyson Fury was the MMA fighter in that ring tonight," a second user added with a third writing: "Ngannou wasn't even phased by Fury's illegal elbow." Two-weight undisputed champion Claressa Shields was also watching on as she wrote: "Omg did Fury just throw an elbow!!!! That’s not right!"

Ngannou is targeting a return date in the first quarter of next year, most likely in MMA for his PFL pay-per-view debut. “I’m going to fight sometime in February or March. Maybe in the cage or in the ring, but I’m going to fight. I already basically have both, and we are working on what’s going to work better," he told ESPN.

"I told myself that I didn’t do bad against the No. 1 heavyweight in the world, so I’ve just to go back and focus on that, and use that experience to work on it and get prepared for the next time. I think this just gets me even more excited and hungry to prove. I was wounded, but I realise I can bite.”
