Ted Lasso, The Morning Show, and For All Mankind fans will be charged a lot more for tuning in this month as Apple TV+ hikes its prices. Following in the footsteps of Disney+, the streaming site has upped its rate by £2 a month ...and unlike Netflix and Disney+, which offer discounted plans with advert breaks, there's no way to lock-in a cheaper subscription deal with Apple.

It's the latest streaming site to up its prices as rates up from the usual £6.99 a month to £8.99 which will see any new subscribers lock into the new price. Those who managed to catch the previous £6.99 monthly rate will see their rates rise from their next renewal date, so the £2 saving is only short-lived - if you're halfway through a series you may want to get binge-watching before you're bumped up.

Apple's leave-anytime contract means that existing viewers who don't fancy forking out the extra £36 a year can leave before they're hit with the price change. If you cancel during a paid subscription you'll get charged for that month but you can continue to log-in and stream right up to your renewal date, so if you've got The Morning Show or Bad Sisters to catch up on you may want to do it quick.

Speaking in an exclusive to The Verge, Apple Spokesperson Bernadette Simpao confirmed that existing subscribers will see an increase "30 days later, on their next renewal date" a stone's throw away from Disney+'s more lenient approach.

Fans of the rival streamer have a day left to lock onto its existing 12 months for the price of eight deal, where they'll be able to lock in pre-hiked rates for a year, but Apple fans don't get that luxury.

What to do if you want to avoid the looming hikes? There's nothing to worry about if you are planning to shop at EE, Currys, John Lewis or Sky anytime soon as the providers will give you free months worth of the subscription.

How to bag a free Apple TV+ subscription

Sky will give you six months for free

Yes, it's a huge saving! Sky gives all its Sky Q, Sky Glass and Sky Stream customers the streaming platform for free when they sign up to one of its plans. This means users will be able to click into it directly from their Sky Box and not have to worry about the price, once its over then you'll pay the £8.99 a month fee.

What's even sweeter is the provider is currently offering a whole month of Sky Stream for free, in its one-month free trial. Users will pay £0 for the first month before locking into £29 a month for a month-to-month rolling contract. If you're certain you'd stick to it then you can pay a cheaper £26 a month on the basis that you lock in for a full 18-months. Oh, and of course Apple TV+ will be thrown in for absolutely free for the first six months, winner.
