Strictly's Giovanni Pernice makes new career move after Amanda Abbington exit
Strictly Come Dancing star Giovanni Pernice has surprised fans by revealing a shock career move after unveiling his debut fragrance.
The 33-year-old professional dancer has built up an army of fans thank to the footwork he has showcased on Strictly - having won the show in 2021. And now fans can get to know Giovanni like never before - by spritzing his scent all over themselves.
The TV star is trying his luck at becoming a perfumer, and has designed his debut scent, which is called “Vita” - which is the Italian word for life. He had been teasing his new product for the past week, sharing moody photographs of himself posing with a model in black and white snaps.
But now the mystery surrounding the ‘secret project’ Giovanni had been working on has been solved as he explained he’s made a unisex scent that all fans can enjoy. Taking to Instagram on Monday, the star shared a new photo of himself posing seductively with the model Amanda Faical.

“I have long been passionate about fragrance and the way scent can captivate the emotions and transport us to another place. VITA is the embodiment of my passions, a personal and complex fragrance which slowly seduces as it unfolds on the skin. I hope you love VITA as much as I do.”
Fans wondering what the unisex fragrance smells like can find further details on the official brand website. The link to the fragrance describes the scent as having: "top notes of Marine and Bergamot [that] evoke the sun-kissed Mediterranean, combining with Clary Sage, Geranium and Rosemary, over the deep base notes of Sicilian Incense and Patchouli, to create a distinctively sensual and sophisticated fragrance."
The description suggests that the combined fragrances of sage, geranium, rosemary and "fresh marine and bergamot top notes which recall Giovanni’s enjoyment of the sun-kissed coasts of the Mediterranean" will lead to a scent similar to a herb rack splashed with sea water.
Nicholas Hill, co-founder and creative director of the VITA brand, gave further information about the new fragrance - and how it links to the Strictly star's Italian heritage. He said: "Our aim in creating VITA was to capture and reference the wide cultural influences which have shaped Giovanni, to produce a personal fragrance which evokes the vitality and sensuality which is uniquely Sicilian; uniquely Giovanni Pernice."
And fans should perhaps brace themselves for other products being produced by Giovanni and his work colleagues. Their website states: "GP Vita aims to create products to inspire and bring joy to life," and adds: "the unisex fragrance ‘VITA’ is the first product which aims to fulfil this vision."
Giovanni's new project comes a week after it was announced his dance partner for 2023, Amanda Abbington, had made the decision to withdraw from the contest. The duo had been forced to skip week five of the contest due to "medical reasons" before news broke she had exited the show completely.
Strictly bosses confirmed the news, sharing a statement via Instagram. They wrote: "Amanda Abbington is unable to continue in Strictly Come Dancing and has decided to withdraw from the competition. The show wish her all the best for the future."
