Arsene Wenger believes that Tottenham will be one of the contenders for the Premier League after their strong start.

Ange Postecoglou was hired in the summer and had to deal with the departure of Harry Kane, but his new-look side have been hugely impressive and boasts an unbeaten record after ten games, winning eight and drawing twice.

It is their best start to a Premier League campaign with several tests already passed. They produced a spirited display to twice come from behind at Arsenal to claim a point last month with some already suggesting they could be surprise title challengers - something Wenger believes could be on the cards.

He said on beIN Sports: “If I said after 10 games [they’d be] top of the league… You ask me, not a tricky question because I like always to say what I feel deeply, and I believe Tottenham will be one of the contenders for the league.

“They bought Maddison, who is a great player and who is that link from low midfield to high midfield, and added some technical creativity to the team. They had weaknesses there [at the back] and last year [Hugo] Lloris didn’t have the best of seasons as well. And overall, the movement from Son into the middle looks very good.”

Tottenham have rarely been able to mount a title charge, twice coming close under Mauricio Pochettino, but falling away since then. Manchester City are eyeing a fourth straight league title with Arsenal among their challengers as Wenger predicts a four-horse race for supremacy.

“For the Premier League. I would say Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham and City of course will always come back," said the Frenchman, who won the title on three occasions. "They look like the four who will fight at the moment for the Premier League.”

Tottenham picked up their fourth win on the bounce on Friday night as they saw off Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. It means they retain top spot with Postecoglou more than happy for the fans to dream of a title victory - which would be the first piece of silverware for 17 years.

The Australian told Sky Sports: "Let them dream. It's what being a football fan is all about. It's fair to say that this lot have suffered a fair bit so I'm certainly not going to dampen that." He added: "What's important is we're giving our supporters joy and hope. That's what football clubs are there for. Dreams last as long as they do until someone wakes you up. We'll see."
