Queen rejected Meghan Markle's only wish after wedding - it 'wasn't appropriate'

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry 's Royal Wedding was a stunning historical occasion enjoyed by people around the world.

The late Queen and the rest of the Royal Family looked in their element as they celebrated with the happy couple at Windsor Castle. But according to a report it was a very different story shortly afterwards, and the new Duke and Duchess of Sussex faced disappointment when the Monarch rejected a request they made about their home.

According to the Sunday Times, the couple asked the Queen if they could live at Windsor Castle. The report, written by Rosa Nikkah states: "The couple are understood to have set their hearts at first on Windsor Castle, and are believed to have asked the Queen if living quarters could be made available after their marriage."

But Harry's granny said no and gave them Frogmore Cottage instead, which they have since spent an astounding £2.4million of taxpayers' money refurbishing. Hugo Vickers told the Express why the Queen may have decided to deny their request, saying it might not have been "entirely appropriate".

He writes: "There are empty bedrooms and suites in the private apartments within Windsor Castle which the Sussexes may have had their eye on, or perhaps some former living quarters in the castle grounds converted into other things. But I can see how it might not be entirely appropriate to have a young family living there."

When they were dating Meghan moved into Prince Harry's small two-bedroom cottage at Kensington Palace, which is just a few doors up from the Cambridge family. However shortly before the birth of Archie Harrison the couple moved into their new home, later than expected due to delays with the renovation work.

List most things royal, most of the details about their new home have been kept secret - but there are a few things we do know. The couple enlisted the help of designer Vicky Charles, who is behind the decor at their favourite hangouts Soho House, to turn the building into their dream home.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex now live in California after quitting the royal family back in 2020. They live in the Montecito area and have also welcomed their youngest child, Princess Lilibet, named after the late Queen.
