The Motorpoint Arena has released a statement after Nottingham Panthers player Adam Johnson suffered a serious injury while playing against Sheffield Steelers.

Johnson was injured during the second period and the match was later abandoned, with around 8,000 spectators leaving the Sheffield Arena. It's believed the horrific injury was caused by a skate blade in a freak accident, with Johnson cutting his throat.

Paramedics went out onto the ice and players formed a ring around Johnson as screens were erected. He was then taken to hospital by ambulance.

The Panthers' stadium, Motorpoint Arena, tweeted: "Our heartfelt thoughts go out to Adam Johnson, his loved ones, all the Panthers players, staff, fans and the whole ice hockey community, following his horrific injury this evening," they said.
