Jack Grealish will be aiming to keep his past support of Manchester United under wraps ahead of this weekend’s Manchester Derby.

Pep Guardiola ’s side travel to Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon for the latest instalment of the showdown. Grealish, a £100m signing for City in the summer of 2021, will be hoping to have an impact for his side.

However, previous tweets have revealed that the former Aston Villa star actually supported the Red Devils instead. Taking to Twitter in April 2012, the England star wrote: “On route to training, finally I’m back training n the suns shining, absolutely BUZZING for the game tonight, come on u reds #united.”

Grealish actually faced disappointment that day as his future employers Man City ran out 1-0 winners at the Etihad Stadium. Vincent Kompany scored the winning goal for City the day of Grealish’s tweet.

He continued to lend his backing to the Red Devils throughout the campaign. Taking to social media on May 13 that season, he wrote: “Football is on! Please United win and City lose, I cannot watch City win the league lol, come on the Villa as well.”

That day would also end in disappointment for Grealish as Man City secured their first Premier League title with Sergio Aguero ’s famous winner against Queens Park Rangers. That would not be Grealish's final admission of his support for United.

He shared a picture inside Old Trafford in 2014 during a 4-0 win against QPR. He wrote: "At the Theatre of Dreams! Unbelievable this place is!!!!"

Since becoming a Man City player, it is clear where his loyalties now lie. Speaking after completing his £100m move to the Etihad from Aston Villa, he said: “I am incredibly happy to have joined Manchester City.

“City are the best team in the country with a manager considered to be the best in the world – it’s a dream come true to be part of this club. Over the past 10 seasons, they have won major trophies consistently.

“Pep coming here has taken them to the next level and the football this team plays is the most exciting in Europe. To play for Pep and learn from him is going to be special and it’s something any top footballer would want.”

Grealish also played a pivotal part in City’s treble celebrations last season and once again expressed his affection for his current club. He said: "But listen, I just enjoy myself, I'm living my dream of playing for the best club in the world in my opinion, we've just won the treble so I'm going to obviously have a break now with my family and my friends and then I'll be raring to go again in four weeks.”

Grealish has yet to find his best form for Guardiola’s side this season. He has made 10 appearances in all competitions but has just a solitary assist to his name. The England star has not started a Premier League game since late August.
