Heavyweight boxer David Adeleye pushed the referee after his stoppage loss on the Tyson Fury vs Francis Ngannou undercard.

Adeleye suffered his first professional defeat as he missed out on the British heavyweight title when he was knocked out by Fabio Wardley in the seventh round. The fight was serving as chief support for the crossover bout between WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury and former UFC champion Francis Ngannou.

Wardley was struggling to find his feet early on as Adeleye was landing the better and harder punches. Wardley began to capitalise on Adeleye's gas tank failing him as the tides turned four rounds in. In the seventh round, Adeleye was floored by a right hand-left hook after breaking from the clinch and he managed to get back feet.

Defending champion Wardley landed a few more good right hands and Adeleye stumbled his way into the ropes which caused referee John Lataham to stop the fight. Adeleye didn't agree with Latham's decision as he believed the fight was stopped too early, pushing the referee in frustration after his defeat.

"I'm p***ed the referee stopped it and I was still there, I wish he would have given me 10 more seconds," Adeleye said after his loss. I think my game management was wrong, my legs just weren’t with me. I’m a man and I know how to take a defeat. Fair play to Wardley, he got me with a jab and his thumb went him in my eye.

"I've never been down, it’s the first time I’ve ever been down in a fight my whole career. You can ridicule all you want online but I'll be back. Every loss I had in the matters I avenged so hopefully I can get the rematch." Adeleye was also lucky to not have a point deducted in the fight as he was warned by the referee for repeatedly landing with his elbow.

Wardley teased a fight with fellow British heavyweight Frazier Clarke after his win as he said: “I was on form. That's probably the best I’ve ever felt. Everyone tags this white collar name on me but I’ve shedded that off. Any man that beats the count shows heart, but I knew that I had so much more in the tank and I was going to get that knockout."
