Trust is a crucial part of any relationship, from friends and family to romantic partners. Maintaining a healthy bond with those you're close to is almost impossible without trust.

Being concerned that your partner might be cheating on you isn't exactly the most unusual worry that someone can have - many people may have found themselves thinking it could happen.

However, one woman was shocked to be branded as "completely unfair" when she jumped to the conclusion her partner was suspicious after he decided to stay in an Airbnb with a couple of friends, instead of their studio flat, after an evening out.

The woman posted on Mumsnet looking for advice on whether her reaction was reasonable or not, where she explained that she didn't know if she was simply "massively overthinking" the situation and that her partner has no history of infidelity that would cause her to jump to the conclusion he is cheating on her.

She added that the worry was "typical me being paranoid really" as he decided to book an Airbnb close to their own studio flat that she thought "just seems quite strange." She explained that as a couple they "own a studio flat which we will definitely upsize when we can but for his birthday he wants to have a night with his two best mates".

She then claimed she initially "assumed" his night with his friends would take place at their home because she "knew he was hosting it and have planned something for me to do that night (we are doing something together the Friday night) so I'm not there so he will have the place to himself."

Instead of their home, her boyfriend opted to book a bigger place nearby for the night, which has two bedrooms and two bathrooms, because he felt that their studio flat would be too "claustrophobic". He told her that the place also has outside seating and "more room so they can all comfortably move about and sleep there."

The woman, however, didn't seem convinced by his explanation and asked if his choice was "normal" adding that her mother had said: "why doesn't he just stay in the empty place he owns and I do have to agree."

The Airbnb, which she noted is only a "couple of minutes away from his empty home" also cost £120, and all of this combined led her to wonder if she was right to think the arrangement was "a little strange".

Commenters were quick to support the woman's boyfriend and call her out on her unfounded suspicions. "Seems incredibly reasonable and if I were him I'd be pretty pissed off at the assumption it was in any way suspicious," wrote one commenter. "A studio flat is very unlikely to have enough space for three adults to comfortably sleep. He sounds like a fantastic friend putting the comfort of his guests as a priority."

Another replied: "I think you're being a bit paranoid. I don’t think it's uncommon now for people to rent a place that's a bit bigger". Some were more harsh with the woman, with one calling her suspicions "completely unfair and borderline nasty" considering she didn't have any tangible reason or previous experience with her partner to assume he would be unfaithful.
