Fish and chips is a staple dish in British cuisine, and it's the one thing that people visiting the country always want to try. The dish often has mixed reviews from non-natives, but one American man was left absolutely floored when he tried the food for the first time - all thanks to a "game-changing" side.
A YouTuber known as AJ Slambino was excited to get his hands on a "real" portion of fish and chips from Seafare Guildford Fish and Chips after following the advice of his Brit pal Paul, and with the restaurant being rated among the top 10 chippies in the country, it didn't disappoint. And while AJ enjoyed every part of the iconic English grub, there was one part he couldn't get enough of.

AJ was floored by the curry sauce and mushy peas (AJ Slambino/YouTube)AJ's order consisted of fish, chips, a saveloy, curry sauce, mushy peas and a battered sausage, making sure he hit all the major parts of a traditional chippie menu, and there was one part that left him wishing he could get the dish back home - the curry sauce.
The man was told that for the full experience, he had to dip a chip into the sauce, and after trying it, he described it as a "game-changer". He added in a video posted to his YouTube account: "Why don't we do this in America? I don't get it."
Next up was the mushy peas, which AJ admitted he was nervous to try because they looked "scary". But he soon had a change of heart when he took his first fork-full, as he said he'd sooner chow down on mushy peas than regular ones any day. He explained: "Honest opinion? Why do we eat peas the way we do when we can eat them like this? Because I'd rather eat it like this than a pea, it's way better this way."

Somewhat controversially, he then loaded up his fork with a bit of fish, a chip, and some mushy peas so he could eat them all together - and said the taste sensation was "amazing". He described the saveloy as being "just like a hot dog" before returning to the peas, which he seemingly couldn't get enough of.
AJ - who also posts on TikTok under the username @ajslambino - concluded his review on the battered sausage, which saw him reiterate his love of the dish and even suggest he might set up shop back home. He said: "I'm gonna open like a shop in America that makes all this because we're missing out, like American people, they're missing out."
