An exorcist has warned revellers to avoid one popular game at their Halloween parties - or face the risk of being haunted.

Ian Lawman describes himself as an expert in all things paranormal, and is one of the leading and most recognised exorcists in the UK. Having starred in TV shows Most Haunted, Ghost Chasers and Help My House Is Haunted!, the Scunthorpe-born psychic spent years beforehand working in Christian exorcism as a trained minister for the Church of England before going solo.

He is now issuing the public with advice as how to keep themselves free from spirits this spooky season, and believes there is one game that should be saved for other times of year.

On Halloween, or All Hallows' Eve in the Christian faith, Ian believes that a 'veil' – a sort of barrier between realms – is lifted between the land of the living and the world of the dead. This means people who are not familiar with traversing the two spiritual realities should steer well clear of Ouija boards at this time, he said. Over the years it has been claimed that Ouija boards, also known as spirit boards, can be used to contact the dead. Ian told the Daily Star: "As always if a person dabbling with the unknown does not know what they are doing, then it's best left alone. However, on All Hallows Eve when the Veil is lifted, it is then that our vulnerabilities are exposed to be violated by the unknown.

"I believe that people who dabble on Halloween do not always have an understanding of the true meaning of this occasion. "Spirits are more active at this time so try not to get involved in Ouija boards as this is basically inviting spirits and unwanted entities into our ether, therefore potentially increasing spiritual activity. Symptoms of being haunted can include objects moving, seeing shadows or spirits, having cold spots within your home, or hearing voices or strange noises."

The professional exorcist recently teamed up with wine brand 19 Crimes after they decided to burry 100 bottles of their red tipple in a Victorian London cemetery. Ahead of Halloween, they lowered the wine six foot under and laid them to 'rest' in a coffin - leading the manufacturers to claim it is the 'world's first coffin aged wine'.
