Taylor Swift's much anticipated 1989 rerecording is finally here and fans are stepping back into the era with their favourite pop star and happily discovered five brand new original songs.

1989 (Taylor's Version) features the exact same songs from the original version, but just rerecorded and reproduced. However, it is extra special as it features five new tracks that fans had not previously heard. These vault tracks include Slut!, Say Don't Go, Now That We Don't Talk, Suburban Legends, and Is It Over Now?.

Marking the release, Taylor shared three photos on social media along with a message to her fans. It reads: “I was born in 1989, reinvented for the first time in 2014, and a part of me was reclaimed in 2023 with the re-release of this album I love so dearly. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine the magic you would sprinkle on my life for so long. This moment is a reflection of the woods we’ve wandered through and all this love between us still glowing in the darkest dark. I present to you, with gratitude and wild wonder, my version of 1989. It’s been waiting for you.”

But as many dedicated Swifties stayed up until midnight to be the first to hear Taylor's Version of 1989, many were left disappointed as they experienced technical difficulties. As the album dropped, both Spotify and Apple Music were both briefly down as users flocked to the streaming platforms.

Rerecording this album is a part of a mission of Taylor's to reclaim her old work. After parting ways with her old management, Taylor revealed that she did not own the masters to her music. In fact, she wasn't even able to buy them back, so she went to the studio and began doing them all over again. Of the six old albums, 1989 is the fourth to be rerecorded, leaving only her self-titled debut album and Reputation left.

The album rerecord did leak early and some fans even reported they received their physical copies in the mail before its release. Nonetheless, plenty of fans waited up to listen to the album for the first time through and streaming numbers instantly stacked up.

Since the release, Swifties immediately took to X, formerly Twitter, to share their enthusiasm and love for the re-created album. One fan wrote: "TAYLORRRRRRRRRRRRRRR YOU DID GREAT ITS PERFECT IM BACK IN 2014 RECLAIMING MY PAST SELF ALONGSIDE YOU AND IM EMOTIONAL." Another added: "I LOVE YOU AND I’M SO GLAD I GET TO EXPERIENCE MY FAVORITE ERA TWICE ALONG SIDE YOU." And a third wrote: "WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE! Can’t believe we get to relive this masterpiece re-recorded and taken to a whole new level. We love you girl. Stay awesome."
