Francis Ngannou sends message to 'haters' during Tyson Fury workout

Francis Ngannou has mocked critics with a 'fumbled the bag' message before his crossover fight against Tyson Fury.

Former UFC heavyweight champion Ngannou makes his boxing debut against Fury on Saturday to kick off Riyadh season in Saudi Arabia. The Cameroonian knockout artist vacated his world title and split with the UFC at the beginning of the year over a bitter contract dispute, as he demanded new terms that would guarantee him more money and the ability to compete in boxing.

Ngannou's decision to leave the UFC was heavily criticised by MMA fans as it ruined any chance of a highly-anticipated fight against Jon Jones taking place. It seemed Ngannou wasn't going to secure the big boxing payday he hoped for, but when Fury's undisputed fight against Oleksandr Usyk was delayed, his patience paid off as he signed to fight the Brit.

Whilst lacing up his gloves at the open workouts on Wednesday evening, Ngannou took a subtle dig at his haters by appearing with a duffel bag that had the words 'fumbled the bag' written on it. Fans praised Ngannou for his wittiness as one user wrote: "That’s actually hilarious, I thought it was photoshopped the first time I saw it!"

"Hopefully the payday is worth it, I'm sure it is. It'll be interesting to see him get back into MMA after this," a second user added. "I rate his level of pettiness this is world class stuff," a third comment read as a final user wrote: "Whether he wins the fight against Fury or not, he won his argument against the UFC. He could probably retire after this and have zero worries or regrets for the rest of his life."

Fury mocked Ngannou for refusing to take his t-shirt off during the open workouts despite the former UFC champion usually being in fantastic shape. The Brit boasted about his own physique before saying of his counterpart: "Francis Ngannou is a big fat sausage. How about that? Have we ever seen the man take his top off? No. He's a big fat sausage, that's why he won't take his top off, he's embarrassed of his body.

"Honestly, believe that! If it was up to Francis he would fight me with his t-shirt on, fact. I don't [think he's in tremendous shape], I think he's a big fat sausage." Fury then removed his shirt to show off his own physique, before adding: "You want to see a man in good shape? This is a man in good shape, ready to do 30 rounds, that's a man in good shape there."
